There is a certain joy that goes along with some successes, particularly when it develops into something significant out of a mere passion. At Whitecaps, we are proud to have our learners convert their abilities and dreams into successful businesses.
Their stories make us realize that entrepreneurship has no starting point, and even when one is in the comfort of their home, it can start. The journeys of Noseno and Shijung Lusang are two of these in Kohima.
Both EDP alumni started by wanting to develop, learn, and create something of their own, and have since made their love of baking thrive in their successful businesses.
Noseno – Passion to a Growing Home Bakery
A Passion to Bake More
To Noseno, baking was not merely an activity that she liked doing. She was actually interested in pastry, and she wanted to see where that passion would lead her.
Her desire to become skillful and create something of her own made her choose a more organized route to her goal.
Identifying the Right Learning Opportunity
Noseno joined Whitecaps’ Excellence Diploma Programme in the July 2023 batch, becoming part of a learning experience that helped her look at baking from a more entrepreneurial perspective.
The experience provided her with the chance to intensify her baking knowledge and learn the value of having a business based on her abilities.
As a budding baker, this blend of real-world learning and entrepreneurship can be the difference between merely following a hobby and making the first steps toward a career.
The Dawn of The Artisan Bakehouse
Today, Noseno is a certified pastry chef and home baker based in Kohima. Her business is The Artisan Bakehouse, an Instagram-driven baking project that has almost 3,000 followers. Her story is an indication of how passion can build into a recognised home-based company.
With her skills, creativity, and growing customer base, Noseno has continued to establish herself within Kohima’s baking community.
And her story is a reminder that great businesses may start by simply loving to bake and wanting to learn what it takes to turn her love into a career.
Shijung Lusang – From Learning the Craft to Building My Little Space
Becoming an EDP Member with a Purpose
For Shijung Lusang, baking was a skill she wanted to develop into something more. She desired to study at a professional level, understand the business aspect of baking, and eventually establish a venture of her own.
She enrolled in the January 2024 batch of the Whitecaps Excellence Diploma Programme.
The programme provided her with a systematic setting to hone her baking talents as well as learn what goes into making and developing a business.
Putting Learning into Practice
Shijung’s journey did not stop with learning new techniques. The EDP helped her look at baking from a wider entrepreneurial perspective, giving her greater exposure to areas such as business planning, branding, marketing and costing.
On this basis, she started applying her learning to practice and developing a baking business that would be her own skills and vision.
Creating My Little Space
Today, Shijung is the owner and operator of My Little Space, a bakery in Kohima. The brand has created a personal site and Instagram page, which she uses to show her work, communicate with customers, and establish a better identity for the business.
It has also created a community of almost 4000 followers on its Instagram page who view her work and baking projects.
Making An Impact – Teaching Her Skills to Others
The most significant aspect of the journey that Shijung goes through is that she now does not just run a bakery. She also teaches baking classes where she provides the knowledge and experience she has acquired to other people who are interested in trying baking.
From getting into EDP with the dream of establishing her own career to starting her own bakery and teaching future bakers, the story of Shijung proves that learning can be the key to becoming an entrepreneur and a source of knowledge.
